Volunteer Spotlight

Meet Sydney Greenberg

I am a fourth year nursing student at the University of Virginia School Of Nursing. Nursing school has aided me in discovering my passion for vulnerable populations, especially vulnerable populations in women’s health. Many minority women suffer with breast cancer and other comorbidities because of lack of access to early detection, screening, and health promotion and outreach. My goal as a future health care provider is to help eliminate this health disparity.

Through attending high school at the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School in Petersburg, Virginia, I noticed a great need for better women’s health care in this area. This need drove me to seek volunteer opportunities in women’s health to aid this population. My mother was a patient of Ellen Shaw de Paredes and told me about the organization. Through volunteering here I have the opportunity to make a positive impact in women’s health and be an advocate for women who often do not have one.
